The health, safety and security of our guests is our highest priority. Please take a moment to take note of how we are providing a safe environment to welcome our guests.
Please note: all Covid-19 policies are based on current UK government guidelines and are being constantly reviewed based on the latest advice. With that in mind, some of the information you receive at the time of booking may be out of date by the time you arrive at the holiday cottages. Please check back on our Covid-19 update page for the latest information for Brackenrigg Holiday Cottages.
We have updated out terms and conditions to take account of Covid-19
The Government has announced a roadmap for re-opening for England. We hope to re-open for single households from 12th April, and for 2 households from 17th May. We will be accepting bookings on this basis.
In the meantime please stay safe and well through these difficult times. The fells and lakes will be here when you are able to visit again, and we will be delighted to see you!

Some of the things we are doing at Brackenrigg House & Brackenrigg Barn to help minimise risks:
Our housekeeping team will wear gloves, visors or masks and aprons whilst cleaning the house & barn cottages, and will change these between cottages. They will take extra time and care to sanitise door handles, light switches, remote controls and any regularly touched items and areas. We will air the House & Barn cottages thoroughly. Our accommodation is always cleaned to a high standard and we intend to meet & maintain this standard before your arrival. Our risk assessment statement provides more ‘technical’ detail.
We provide Hand Sanitiser at each entrance and we require that you and all your group use this upon entering your house or cottage. We will also provide surface sanitiser for you, and hand soaps.
Unfortunately we will be removing items such as children’s toys, outdoor toys and board games from the house and cottages for the foreseeable, but you are more than welcome to bring your own. We ask that you please make sure these are taken home with you.
We will keep our library of books in the House games room, but we ask that if you read any of these or touch them, to leave them out on the mantlepiece at the end of your stay, so that we can isolate them for 72 hours before returning to the shelves.
We ask that all guests follow the government guidelines of social distancing and washing hands regularly. This is the responsibility of the guest.
Unfortunately, the shared Barn laundry room has been closed for now. If this is going to cause you a particular difficulty eg because you have a baby, please let me know, and I am sure special arrangements can be made on an exception basis. Please note, we cannot open it on a ‘free-for-all’ basis for obvious reasons.
It is important that all guests depart no later than 9am and do not arrive before 5pm, so there is no crossover between our staff & guests, and we have as much time as possible to air and sanitise the property. Where possible, we are encouraging 6 night stays, so we can air each cottage for you for 24hrs before your arrival, if you have booked a 6 night stay, you can arrive at any time after 9am.
We also ask that you make sure the house is tidy, you have removed all rubbish from all bins and elsewhere before you leave, and you have taken all your belongings as you will not be able to re-enter after departing at 9am.
We ask that you strip your beds, and put the linen in the laundry bag provided in each bedroom. This will enormously reduce the ‘handling’ of used bed linen for our staff, and so reduce any risk to them. Thank you.
We, and our team would like to thank you for your co-operation in these difficult times, together we can all stay safe & well, and continue to enjoy this beautiful landscape, which is still here for all of you!
You all bring life, excitement and energy to this beautiful area! Welcome back!
